Outrage over @POTUS Trump's violation of norms, principles, and laws has tended to mask actions his Administration is taking that hurts a large swath of his base. Let's stop reacting to all @realDonaldTrump's #bull$hit and start tweeting about issues:
#Healthcare: Trump has tried since election to trash #AffordableCareAct (b/c it's called "Obamacare"), joining Republican states in suing to overturn ACA, doing away with protection for #Pre_existingConditions. Trump budget cuts Medicaid and ACA subsidies by a trillion dollars.
Trump also wants to cut #SNAP once again calling for reductions in the number of adults who can qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The 2021 budget proposes cutting SNAP funding by about $15 billion from last year. nytimes.com/2020/02/10/us/…
As a presidential candidate, Trump repeatedly promised to save the federal government $300 billion a year by allowing #Medicare to negotiate lower #prescription drug prices, saying “on Day One we solve” that issue. Day one has come and gone.
The #BorderWall that he promised would be paid for by Mexico is instead being financed by billions in U.S. taxpayer dollars, inc. money diverted from Pentagon, and Trump’s budget request to Congress is expected to seek even more.
Trump's #CampaignPromise to protect #Medicaid from cuts has been repeatedly ignored, as he has sought to slash some $800 billion over a decade from the health program for low-income Americans.
Also during 2016 campaign, Trump vowed to deliver a major #InfrastructureImprovmentPlan, but there has been virtually no progress on this issue, while White House "#InfrastructureWeeks" have come and gone.
Trump's promised to eliminate #USdebt of $20 trillion within eight years and instead has added almost $3 trillion to the debt in three years, and that number is only expected to balloon, according to nonpartisan estimates.
The CBO recently said that annual deficits will top $1 trillion in 2020 for the first time since 2012 and that the 2017 #RepublicanTaxCut led to a reduction in new revenue. Trump and @senatemajldr have implied that #Medicare and #SocialSecurity will be cut in Trump's second term.
Trump's proposed budget for fiscal 2021 calls for significant reductions to environmental programs at federal agencies, including a 26% cut to the #EPA.
The Trump budget would cut the #Superfund program, tasked with cleaning up hazardous waste sites, by 10% despite data showing the agency has the largest backlog of toxic waste cleanups in 15 years.
In case you wondered whether Trump's budget would cut funding for waterway protection projects in blue states like Maryland, New York and Washington. Projects in swing states like the Great Lakes region and Florida's Everglades would be fully funded.
Trump budget reductions mark latest effort to chip away at government agencies focused on science, the environment and public lands. The proposed budget would slash the recently reauthorized Land and Water Conservation Fund by nearly 97%.
The White House budget request would reduce spending at the #DepartmentOfEnergy by 8% and cut 16% percent from #Interior's budget.
