1/ Wow I loved this from @jerrycolonna via @fredwilson and @avc

avc.com/2020/01/the-cr…
2/ In particular:
"Surrendering to the demons that torment your organization does not mean abdicating your responsibilities to manage...acknowledging the ways you contribute to the problem without descending into pointless self-flagellation –adds to the heat beneath the crucible"
3/ That concept is clarifying and powerful for me. To be able to acknowledge that I have contributed to a key problem but not to beat myself up endlessly for it as CEO. That is not a balance I have had the mental discipline to strike.
4/ While I'm sure there are times I contribute to problems and I'm unaware, more present for me are the times I torment myself about my known contributions to mistakes. The mental health toll is painful and seemingly never-ending.

Thank you for that insight Jerry.
5/ Then it gets even better:

"That’s often the biggest obstacle to becoming your self. The frenzied, frenetic, do-it-now, answer-the-email-now-or-the-company-will-die-even-though-it’s-3 a.m. attitude is precisely the wrong process of becoming your self."
6/ I think one of the things he is talking about is creating the mental (and physical?) space to allow for reflection. Ability to zoom out. I find that the times when I'm most in "reactive" mode (respond now!) are the times when I am least effective as a leader.
