Publication of UK negotiating objectives, breaking from its very own word just a few months ago, should tell EU and rest of world one thing: this Government is utterly untrustworthy. I would add - the UK people, but they know it already - and 44% still voted for Jonhson anyway...
Said it before but worth repeating: realpolitik might let Trump lead US like a rogue state. But same realpolitik will punish UK as Johnson tries to mimic his Master. Brexit has already damaged UK standing & influence. Neo-Tories' imperial delusions about sovereignty make it worse
And let's not even mention the automata that pass for MPs - you know, the ones who voted through Johnson's withdrawal package, including the bit that denied parliament any real say over what comes next. "Taking back control". Oi, Tory voters, let me sell you some magic beans...

Useful moment to recall what happens at end of transition period (1 January 2021) if, as Johnson seems determined, there is no significant agreement in place between EU & UK, so latter suddenly & comprehensively discovers what it really means to become a 3rd country. Few points:
1) Like it or not, UK will remain bound by international obligations under Withdrawal Agreement, many of whose provisions will only then become fully effective, e.g. those on future protection of citizens’ rights; e.g. Johnson's new regime governing Irish border.
2) Irish border regime is particularly crucial. Even if it works as planned = serious problems for Northern Ireland. If UK deliberately scuppers its operation, consequences could be catastrophic – for international reputation, other proposed deals, above all peace and stability.

Good comment. Responsible politicians shouldn't adopt this core tactic of Europhobia ie whereby problems aren't just problems to which we need to find a solution; instead every problem is framed as an existential challenge playing for ultimate stakes

Imagine if every time we disagreed with a government policy or decision, we immediately questioned the underlying legitimacy & indeed the very existence of the entire state. Yet the influence of Europhobia means that's exactly the pattern we see over and over again with the EU...
& what makes it more frustrating? A big part of the very purpose of the EU is to help find solutions to problems that countries can't solve alone; indeed, to problems that often have no solution, but rather need to be managed over time / their impacts minimised as best we can

Johnson's demand to "have his cake and eat it" drones ever on... If it was so valuable, why did you leave. If it was so useless, why do you want it back. This isn't "British exceptionalism". It's duplicity and hypocricy. And it's grown very tedious.

There is an important parallel here between Johnson Government's handling of Brexit and its approach to the virus crisis: a refusal to take responsibility for the actual consequences of one's own choices & actions; instead trying to manipulate public with false promises & hopes.
Though question remains (beyond my skills set to answer): just as in Trump's USA, why do such a substantial proportion of population consciously & actively enjoy & support being lied to by such politicians? Often in same breath as cursing the rest for "corruption & dishonesty".
