Arrived at YYZ. I’ll be updating the entire process of flying into Beijing in this thread. Hopefully this will help other travelers! Remember: The situation is changing every minute, and policies may be different depending on the destination. Your mileage may vary! Image
Today, I’m flying from Toronto Pearson to Beijing Capital on Hainan Airlines. Carrier is mandating all passengers to report symptoms, provide travel history, and wear surgical masks before boarding. Image
Mask on. Ours is the only flight where every passenger is wearing a mask. This is my 1st time wearing a mask since this epidemic—it’s about safety, but more importantly, it’s about solidarity. Image
Aboard. All crew members in protection (masks, gloves, and goggles). Passengers are required to keep masks on. Almost full flight. Off to Beijing! Image
Landed. Two forms to fill out onboard ImageImage
Hainan usually operates out of Terminal 2, but our flights has parked at Terminal 3. We are asked not to deplane as China Customs is processing information and preparing for examinations. Not sure how long this will take.
Now deplaning
Airport staff in *full protective gear* ImageImageImage
Now waiting in line for passport control after filling out more forms asking to provide residential address, phone number, and travel history Image
Immigration officers also in full protective gear. Confirmed contact information with me (~3 minutes) before stamping my passport.
We aren’t permitted to leave the airport on our own. Instead, all arriving passengers are bussed to another quarantine location in Shunyi. (This waiting area seems disorganized and crowded.) ImageImage
Ok, this baggage pickup (no more carrousels) and bus waiting area is super chaotic. No signs, no instructions. Image
Arrived at 新国展. District officer registered my information, made sure my phone number was valid, told me to quarantine, and sent me home. ImageImage
Everyone living in my apartment (i.e. my family) needs to self-quarantine for 14 days. Community workers will be helping us buy groceries, according to my district officer. Feel free to share this thread to other travelers returning to Beijing—but again, YMMV!
