In the depth of the Great Depression, our forebears got their minds together and passed the 20th Amendment to the US Constitution.
The 20th is a beautifully clear piece of writing. "The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January."
The Amendment is read together with Article 2, Clause 1 of the Constitution, which sets a four year term for POTUS and VP. POTUS "shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term..."
This means THERE IS NO WIGGLE ROOM, unless reelected, Trump and Pence are done AT NOON on Jan 20 2021. (Nod to @LouiseMensch who correctly barked at me about doubting this last week).
If there is no qualified POTUS at that point, Amendment 20 then gives Congress the right to set succession. Under the Presidential Succession Act, that POTUS is the Speaker of the House - Nancy Pelosi.
We are going through very hard times, but there is daylight at the end of this tunnel. At 12:01 Jan 20 2021, we will be free of Trump's dismal reign and we can set to work fixing the damage.
