I don’t know about you but I am looking forward to Br*t St*phens’ next piece: “What if Covid-19 is right?”
“Universities are now barring the virus from their campuses — and even calling off events altogether just so the virus can’t show up uninvited — another dispiriting sign of cancel culture on the left”
“Some politically correct scientists have taken to comparing covid-19 to an infectious disease, invoking dangerous stereotypes reminiscent of the Nazis.”
“We have to guard against closing our minds to ideas we may instinctively despise like covid-19. If we seek to eradicate something just because we feel threatened by it, what does that make us? Certainly not a society I want to be a part of.”
Currently working "But to be fair to the left, the coronavirus does owe us some transparency about its plans" into my Bret Stephens "What if covid-19 is right?" op-ed. It's a work-in-progress
"A lot of people on both sides are asking tough, fair questions of covid-19. Laura Ingraham called on the virus to tell us when it planned to stop infecting people. I'd like to know too. But how do we get those answers if we deny covid-19 a platform?"
I feel like I was pretty close here tbh Image
“In conclusion let’s not be so quick to judge a virus we happen to disagree with”
Now at work on a new Bretbug op-ed: Vindication for the Virus. “For once I’m grateful for Donald Trump. His willingness to be politically incorrect allowed him to see the virtues of the virus, to keep his resolve against hysterical leftist calls to eradicate it.”
“I find it curious that the left can’t see how their insistent calls to test everyone for the virus are as dangerous and bigoted as calls from the right for citizenship tests. The virus has as much right to be here as anyone.”
“Think about it. If we test everyone for the virus, many more people will demand treatment for it. But if we just live and let live — or, for a small percentage of us, die and let live — we can reclaim our beloved country from the fear and loathing of the narrow-minded.”
“Then there are the lives that covid-19 has already begun to save. In Texas officials have put abortions on hold as the virus spreads. But that only gets scorn and derision from the left because they aren’t the “right” kind of lives being saved.”
“The irony is that campus leftists—those most stridently urging the virus be denied a platform—are the ones who should be embracing covid-19. They are young and healthy. But instead they are cowards. I dare them to go to where the virus lives and call it a plague to its face.”
“My mother, bless her aging little heart, accuses me of being intellectually lazy, myopic and overly complacent about the virus. I think it’s important to listen to our elders and mindful of their hard-earned wisdom, but also to be brave enough to continue to disagree with them.”
“I’m not an epidemiologist, but I do know one thing: this lockdown is more un-American than the virus. As Americans we cherish our freedoms enshrined in the Bill of Rights—including the freedom to infect others and to be infected. If the virus is speech, who are we to muzzle it?”
