I work in the healthcare field. Here's the problem, we are testing people for any strain of a Coronavirus. Not specifically for COVID-19. There are no reliable tests for a specific COVID-19 virus.
There are no reliable agencies or media outlets for reporting numbers of actual COVID-19 virus cases. This needs to be addressed first and foremost. Every action and reaction to COVID-19 is based on totally flawed data and we simply can not make accurate assessments.
This is why you're hearing that most people with COVID-19 are showing nothing more than cold/flu like symptoms. That's because most Coronavirus strains are nothing more than cold/flu like symptoms. The few actual novel Coronavirus cases do have some worse respiratory responses,

1/ A child perfectly healthy, with no issues, eats nuts, swells up, can't breathe....everyone says the child must have had a reaction to the nuts. Testing shows they have a nut allergy. Everyone agrees it's the nuts and to not give the child any more nuts.
2/ A perfectly healthy child with no issues uses a new cream, skin breaks out and it red and hurts....everyone says the child must be allergic to the cream. Parents decide to not use that cream again.
3/ Healthy child with no issues drinks milk, they develop hives and start vomiting.....everyone says it must be the milk. Testing shows the child is allergic to dairy. Everyone agrees the child cannot tolerate milk and for the child's sake, will avoid dairy in their diet.

For those in saying this is just fear mongering camp...

"You don’t quarantine 780 million people, shut down airports, cruise ships, multi billion dollar industries, restrict travel to many countries, completely stop 300,000 shipping..
containers a day from arriving at ports, have hundreds of gov officials in hazmat suits spraying the streets, USA creating the quarantine centers in the specific states near the wanted smart cities, close schools and GP surgeries for something that compares to SARS/H1N1/EBOLA..
None of that occurred with any other virus we’ve seen before. The R0 rate of reproduction is 7-14 not 2-4. 2-4 is catastrophic enough with an incubation rate of up to 28 days and the contagion is in its secondary state of mutation, hence the faster spread occurring in Iran.
