My dear #WA07 friends & neighbors: I know there is some confusion about public health guidance re: physical distancing and staying at home.
On a beautiful Seattle spring day like today, it can be easy to shrug off that guidance, but we MUST be cautious & responsible.
THREAD 👇🏾
STAY HOME. Don't make exceptions for errands or visits with your best friends, unless it really is an urgent need or for your own health.
2/8
TAKING A WALK is good for mental health and exercise, but maintain at least 6-8 feet distance from others. Instead of visiting our beautiful parks when they are packed, consider a walk in your neighborhood, as long as you can keep the required physical distance from others.
3/8
PLEASE FOLLOW PROTOCOLS. King County and the City of Seattle have closed playgrounds and sports courts because physical contact & transmission via playground equipment could be a problem. Please find other ways to keep our kids happy!
GROCERY SHOPPING. Please visit grocery stores that are adhering to public health protocols and protecting workers. (Thanks to our friends at @UFCW21 for their important work!)
DO NOT assume that if you are asymptomatic (meaning not experiencing or showing the symptoms of COVID-19: fever, cough, shortness of breath), you do not have the virus or cannot transmit it to others.
6/8
DO NOT assume that because you are younger, you can't contract the virus or won't have serious symptoms. New research shows that many transmissions could be asymptomatic & hospitalizations of people < 50 are significant.
7/8
PLEASE STAY HOME as much as possible.
I know some of this is confusing & scary. My staff and I will continue to try to get you information we can as quickly as we can. Sign up for my newsletter to stay in touch jayapal.house.gov/newsletter
...And please reach out w/ questions.

It has been 53 days since Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was killed in the West Bank, and we have seen no movement toward an independent investigation by the U.S. government. The U.S. is the largest backer of military assistance to Israel. 🧵
If the Israeli government is unwilling or unable to follow our own domestic laws as well as international humanitarian laws, we must demand accountability.
To ensure the trust of our own U.S. citizens, we must initiate our own investigation into Eygi’s killing, use our leverage to demand changes to the IDF’s rules of engagement, and apply our domestic laws to this situation for full accountability.
One of the most cruel and extreme portions of Trump’s Project 2025 is his plan for mass deportations — a scheme to build detention camps and rip apart millions of families. It’s unconscionable.
Let’s talk about it. 🧵
This plan is inhumane. It would tear apart communities across the country, take parents away from their U.S. citizen kids, and remove children from classrooms.
But it would also be bad for America — for our tax system, for our government programs, and for our economy as a whole.
Let’s begin with the actual process of deporting millions of individuals — a process that Trump has given zero specifics about.
If it were to happen, removing America’s undocumented population would be incredibly harmful and costly.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has been a destructive force and a barrier to peace. Instead of attending his address, I spent time meeting with hostage families and listening to Palestinian and Israeli Jewish activists who are working together for peace and security in the Middle East.
We had real conversations about how to end this conflict — no divisive and politicized rhetoric like Netanyahu, just important and productive discussions.
First, at a moving event, I met with hostage families and heard the deep pain they are experiencing. They spoke about wanting “life over revenge” and expressed anger and frustration that Netanyahu has not prioritized the return of the hostages, but instead has sabotaged a deal.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: @POTUS is the most progressive president on domestic economic policy that we have ever had. Last night in his interview, he showed us that once again.
Let’s run through some of the major things that he and Democrats have accomplished.🧵
President Biden has been THE jobs president! Well over 15 million jobs have been created since he took office and unemployment has now been below 4% for a record 27 months in a row. We’ve also seen over 16 million new business applications. The Biden Economy is delivering.
.@POTUS has also taken on junk fees, requiring companies to show full prices upfront and capping fees from credit cards, live event tickets, auto dealers, apartment rentals, and more — saving Americans BILLIONS.
🧵1. What happened yesterday at @KCCouncil when asylum seekers showed up to testify about how they would be w/o a place to sleep in one of the richest areas in the country was extraordinary. Councilmembers Perry, Mosqueda, Baron, Zahilay welcomed them & ensured they cld speak.
2. After everyone had spoken but asylum seekers were not leaving b/c they had nowhere to sleep that night, council members began calling around to help fill the 2-week gap before county money could get disbursed. Perry called Muslim leader Mubarak El-Amin as one of her calls.
3. Mubarak immediately jumped into action. He is former board member of @weareoneamerica when I was ED, immigrant from Sudan who understands displacement (read more about Sudan & his own story here (), & Muslim leader in pain w/what is happening in Gaza.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/w…
America must call for a ceasefire or cessation of hostilities. After forcing people in north Gaza to go south, Israel just launched enormous set of strikes on the south. This is now collective punishment. 5000+ Palestinians now dead, at least 40% children. washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/…
We have 500+ US citizens + families in south Gaza, trying to get out. Hamas reportedly blocking efforts to get them out, but Israel is bombing in the very area that people have been told to go to for shelter. Israel also blocking fuel & attacking basic infrastructure.
The US rightly called the attacking of the power grid and blocking of food and water in Ukraine by Russia a war crime. We must be consistent here also, despite the horrific nature of Hamas’s attack on Israel. This war is escalating. This is not the answer.
