1/ Saying "more die in car accidents than from C19, but we don't stop driving" is a special kind of stupid. 1) We don't know how many will die from C19. It could easily dwarf driving deaths; 2) If car deaths increased EXPONENTIALLY we WOULD limit driving til we figured out why...
2/ And 3) w/o strong containment a huge % of Americans could get C19. Even if the mortality rate was only 1% (it's higher), if u knew that, say, 1/3 of drivers on the road right now were recklessly speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, would YOU get on the interstate? Well..
3/ Those reckless drivers are analogous to the % of Americans who might get C19 w/o containment & then MIGHT infect u. Indeed some models estimate half of Americans could get it. But even if it were 20%...
4/ ...if u knew 1 in 5 drivers right now were driving reckless you'd likely alter your driving plans until law enforcement got that shit under control.
The other big diff w/car related deaths is the randomness of the latter compared to COVID-19. Bc the virus dispro effects older folks & folks w/pre-existing conditions, to shrug and say "oh well" is to blatantly endorse a kind of eugenics, whereas w/driving we all risk similarly
..& the fact that death numbers so far, compared to from other things like normal flu/driving are in part DUE to distancing measures, however incomplete. To say numbers prove it's no biggie is like bragging about being dry in rainstorm w/umbrella. Get rid of it, see what happens
