Let me explain why Uber & Lyft have been getting a government bailout since day 1:

By not paying workers the minimum wage, they put *full-time* workers into poverty. Taxpayers, then, essentially subsidize driver wages. 1/
B/c the companies don’t provide workers’ compensation & health insurance to their fulltime drivers, when drivers get into an accident or are ill, they also rely on government support systems. This happens all the time 2/
Because the companies have not paid into the unemployment insurance fund like every other employer, drivers getting unemployment insurance right now will be getting it from state coffers—not what is intended by the UI system. 3/
So, Uber & Lyft are companies that only survive as a result of state subsidies. Their executives are rich because of money that comes out of your pocket through taxes—not just rides. And in this pandemic, Uber is asking for another kind of bailout...4/
This time, Uber is asking for Trump to legislate a “3rd category” which would make the companies’ government bailout permanent and get them out from underneath responsibility in thousands of lawsuits. These are craven, cruel, irresponsible ways to business. End/
