This idea has already been mooted. Bloomberg's 2011 quote “If you show up with prostate cancer and you’re 95, we should say ‘go and enjoy, have a nice day, live a long life.’ There’s no cure and we can’t do anything. If you’re a young person, we should do something about it".
Not only is the idea advanced on grounds of necessity but desirability.

The contrary view is that people live until they die. It's possible the 95 year old person will do his one most important act in the last year, day or hour of his life.
The human valuation of importance is flawed. If we believe the animal origin of corona then one nameless bat in Wuhan province was more consequential than either Bloomberg or Emmanuel.
