I'm watching #FirstContact! They just said "to hell with their orders" and took off...follow this thread (or mute!) for my witty banter
Oh HI BEN WYATT
Borg explosion, while awesome, would not look like that in space due to being a vacuum and fire liking oxygen, but that's okay because it looked cool. #TeachingMoment
TEMPORAL VORTEX (Worf got on board just in time)...really just a name for a wormhole connecting two points in time
Knowing how much energy is required to warp spacetime, I probably wouldn't go up there sober either
Haha, drinking astronomers always are pointing out constellations. It's TRUE (oh, and that's Leo)
We don't know how quantum torpedoes work, but they're certainly effective against the Borg
Fun fact, in my talks when I try to differentiate between Star Trek universe and "real" universe, I use the phrase "pre-Cochrane"
The Borg are legitimately terrifying. Spaceship horror scares me, saw Event Horizon way too young
Oh hi Doctor!
Riker's face with Cochrane and Troi is priceless. Drunk Troi is also great
They imply the "plasma coolant" in the warp core IS plasma (spillage=bad) whereas plasma is superheated gas, so you would need coolant around it #TeachingMoment
Sure, send the beefy alien to calm her down
Cam the Borg assimilate non-organic species? Would it just be code that gets adapted? 🤔
Can*, not "Cam the Borg" who is my new headcanon character
HE SAID IT
My friend @Travel_Samantha made an excellent point that this is only 2063, have humans so quickly eliminated our understanding of space travel since WW3?
Her first Ray Gun! I love Lily...what a great character 😊
Oh HI NEELIX
I would definitely have holo-addiction. When the Borg invade I'd just be like NOPE and boot up my happy place
Oh HI BARCLAY (I summoned him by mentioning the holodeck)
Barclay remains a fabulous character and one of my favorite. Such a genuine, real person and so unique to the Star Trek-verse.
ZERO G combat training!! And nausea would definitely be a thing, particularly vertigo from the fluids in your body floating freely (I know, ick)
My face through this whole Borg Queen scene -> 😬😬😬
Antiprotons would indeed be bad. They are the anti-particle of protons, and when matter and its counterpart antimatter meet, they annihilate. They do exist, pre-Cochrane science, and are short-lived. Don't have a way to store and contain them (yet)
STOP THE BEEPING!
An excellent representation of Newton's First Law of Motion, that an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted on by an outside force. Bye, Cam.
Hole in suit is bad, and if his boots weren't mag'd on, the air escaping the hole would be a propellant and fly him away ☹
In fact, this whole fight scene on the ship can be an entire physics lesson in itself. Hmm, may have to do that 🤔
Assimilate this. *pew*
According to Riker, the moon has 50M people living there, the surface area is 14.6 million square miles so that's not unreasonable for a fairly well-populated area (not super-calculating right now because I want to watch the movie 😁)
The Moby Dick reference is wonderful and very apt. This scene with Lily is brave.
We all love the 1701-E
I love this song, and so perfect in this scene
Riker's face 😍
How many of you just got "Faith of the Heart" stuck in your head? 😉
The dialogue is very close to becoming the beginning of Beauty and the Beast: Picard and the Borg
WARP! WARP! WARP!
Rikers face send tweet
Close to light speed, they would be experiencing extreme doppler shifting as well as messing with their reference time (Einstein's Twin Paradox) but that would way over-complicate the story, so we're good.
Anyone else feel bad about their own personal fitness after seeing Picard in that scene? No? Just me? Okay then 😁
TECHNICALLY they would have experienced significant time dilation during that trip, that more time would have passed on Earth than for them, but again, storytelling...we're good. Just fun to think about. #TeachingMoment
That little hand clasp between Zephram and Lily gets me every time 😭
🖖🖖🖖😭😭😭
(Cue all the shaking hand jokes...)
Good job, Moon, obscuring the warp signature 🌖
I bet that party gets LIT.
Well, that's it friends. Thanks for hanging out! I hope you enjoyed as much as I did. Drink your water, wash your hands, and take care of yourself. You're doing great. 🖖
