Former IC IG Atkinson issues a remarkable statement on his removal from office by Trump.

“It is hard not to think that the President’s loss of confidence in me derived from my having faithfully discharged my legal obligations as an independent and impartial Inspector General”
"I have never been a political or partisan person," Atkinson wrote. "To the contrary, I have spent my entire seventeen-year career as a public servant acting without regard to partisan favor or political fear."
Atkinson concludes his statement with a pointed message to would-be whistleblowers: “Please do not allow recent events to silence your voices.”

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee this morning are boycotting a public hearing convened on emerging technologies and national security, citing the committee's lack of hearings or briefings on FISA abuse.
In a letter to Chairman Adam Schiff, GOP members write, “Until the Committee prioritizes oversight activities related to urgent and critical concerns, Republican Members cannot support distractions from our core responsibilities”

New - Leaders of the intelligence community will not appear before the House Intel Committee next week for a public hearing on the top threats facing the country, despite a formal request from Chairman Schiff for them to commit to a public and closed-door session on February 12.
“We are still having productive discussions with the committees on the timing of the Worldwide Threat Assessment hearings,” a spokesperson for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) said Friday.
A committee official confirmed no public hearing would be held next week and that discussions were ongoing. “We…look forward to their agreeing to attend the one public oversight hearing with all major IC agencies the Committee holds each year,” the official said.
