Julian Bond said violence is going to school for 12 years and getting 6 years of education. For low-income, disproportionately black and Latino kids, this covid period is going to be known as the lost months that stole the education of kids who already weren’t getting their due.
I pitched in on this @DanaGoldstein @adampopescu piece looking at how for many low-income children the idea of virtual school simply explodes the class divide that always existed.
Also, cable companies SHOULD NOT be refusing to turn on free internet for poor students because their parents owe a past-due balance. That is what happened to a high school student I interviewed in the Bronx, one of the poorest areas in the nation.
