More sober-minded assessment of the possible efficacy of chloroquine for COVID19 via @Dereklowe blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archi… We could easily harm people by using this drug on a wide scale.
This behavior of high-profile recommendation of chloroquine, without adequate evidence, is irresponsible and may cost lives without saving any. politico.com/amp/news/2020/… Unlike the fictitious homeopathic cure Forsythia, this is being hawked by the president.

Mindfulness meditation reduces anxiety, depression, and stress, and it improves emotional regulation. But does mindfulness meditation alter pro-social behavior and make us nicer?

Using a simple donation game, we randomly assigned 326 online subjects to a short mindfulness meditation session (or to a control group) and measured their willingness to donate a portion of their payment for participation as a charitable donation to others. 2/
Subjects who underwent the brief online meditation treatment donated at a 2.61 times higher rate than the control (p = 0.005), after controlling for socio-demographics. They were more altruistic after being asked to meditate. 3/

Preliminary results from German serological study of exactly the kind we need (N=509 so far) thelocal.de/20200402/how-g… reveals that 14% of sample had antibodies for COVID19 & an additional 2% had current infection. Death rate of 0.37% found (I'm not sure yet if this is IFR or CFR).
And here is the (preliminary) study, in German, courtesy of @JacksonWharf land.nrw/sites/default/… There are very valuable parameters here, in this representative serological survey from one hard-hit region of Germany, giving us a sense of the attack rate and the CFR of COVID19.

People who are dying of COVID19 will need first-rate palliative (hospice) care. This is going to be especially the case for people who are denied ventilators or who are taken off of them (i.e., who are “extubated”). Let’s talk about this painful and poignant fact. 1/
It’s not just a question of “optimal” triage polices for access to ventilators or ICU beds (now tragically being promulgated in hospitals around the USA). Rather, it's a question regarding how will we care for the COVID19 patients whom we triage to allow to die. 2/
Especially if we resort to battlefield triage as in Italy, we will need to plan for palliative care. This will involve drugs to relieve pain, dyspnea, anxiety, and other symptoms near death. This means we need opioids and benzodiazepines (e.g., morphine and midazolam). 3/
