Why? Because the election will be close, as they all are these days. The situation will be chaotic & uncertain because of Covid-19. And in circumstances like that, the party that's more aggressive & shameless will beat the party worried about process & appearances, every time.
I remember the Rs stealing the 2000 election. It all came down to a few key weeks. They ruthlessly did what they needed to do, got the power, & then worried afterward about spinning it & telling everyone to "move on." Dems tried to please the nonexistent refs, and lost.
"What will the op-ed writers say if we literally riot in order to prevent the counting of votes?" -- no one on the R side asked that Q or gave a fck about the A. They realized: get power now, smooth it over later. That same ruthlessness imbalance exists today, worse than ever.
