remember one of the reasons Bernie didn't go that hard on Biden earlier is because Biden is *a really chummy guy* who has been his friend since he came into the Senate. Because Joe Biden is friends with *everyone*. nytimes.com/2020/03/15/us/…
That's his greatest flaw - because he still thinks of the GOP as fundamentally reasonable guys who can be dealt with, not as hardened ideologues or utterly corrupt sycophants - but it was also his big strength in the primaries.
note that Bernie found Biden easier to get on with than either of his main female opponents, Clinton or Warren, regardless of anyone's political positioning. Because Bernie is a 78-year-old guy who has the usual baggage of 78-year-old guys!
like, him and Biden can sit around and talk about the Everly Brothers and how cool the frisbee is

... China was not saying anything like this on January 1st. It reported an unusual pneumonia to WHO, nothing more, and denied human-to-human transmission for weeks.

The timeline is bad enough for Trump's failure, no need to exaggerate it.
The timeline when its inexcusable that the rest of the world wasn't taking major preparatory steps is *Jan 22* when China imposed a massive quarantine - or a few days before that, when it admitted cases were growing and human-to-human transmission occurred.
In a perfect world, we would have acted on the very early warning signs at the start of January. But not acting after the seriousness became *undeniable* is the cardinal sin.

a story I've told before which encapsulates my experience with foreign 'experts' touring China. friends of my family, very experienced UK headteachers, went to Beijing on an exchange visit. I met them, they were raving about how good the schools were, how fluent kids' English ...
It was an ordinary public school? I asked. Oh yes, a totally ordinary, typical school, as they had been told by their hosts.

They showed me the brochures.

It was Beijing No. 4 High School, the single most prestigious in China, where the leadership send their kids.
Three things here that I've seen *repeated* through visits by foreign experts -

a) They're unused to being lied to directly.
b) They're led to believe that the careful set-ups they see are normal or common.
c) They have no understanding of everyday context.

Sanders is still a fair distance off from being the Democratic candidate. It is absolutely right and good to lay into him at this point. However, once he becomes the candidate - or it's extremely likely that he will be - we should learn the lesson of 2016 and *shut the hell up*
Sanders was *maybe* my sixth-choice candidate when this started, and is a grudging second now. If, like me, you can't stand much of his supporters' attitudes and found them intolerable in 2016, *now is the chance to seize the moral high ground of smugness*.
Did you find the way some of his supporters kept undermining Clinton even though so much was at stake incredibly childish and frustrating? Don't do that yourself!
