A friend travelling to work today (she can’t work from home) tells me she was harassed by police at Canning Town tube station who demanded she showed ID & proof she was travelling to do “essential” work. This is NOT a LEGAL REQUIREMENT. Police have no right to ask for this. 1/
She told me Canning Town station was virtually empty at 7am & only a handful of people in each tube carriage because police were turning people away & telling them were not allowed to travel to work. This is NOT the law and it is explicitly not Government policy. 2/
It is outrageous that the police are acting way beyond their powers to stop people going to work when they HAVE to work outside their homes. This needs to stop. 3/
