It didn’t stand a chance did it? Maharashtra has the most number of COVID-19 cases in the country and capital Mumbai the lion’s share of that dreadful statistic. The city is still almost everywhere, so still, you feel you are looking at images in an archive.

Physical distancing is the new normal in a city that has no sense of personal space and has never had the patience to wait. Outside groceries, chemists and in the few work places that are still at work, new skills are being learned everyday.

In the time of COVID-19 the struggle to survive is no longer metaphorical. Men and women, who have to keep Mumbai running are at it with even greater frenetic, relentless energy than usual. Their new weapon cum accessory, the face mask. Everyone has to wear one in public.
