I want to tell you all the story of the current Leftist President of my home country (Mexico) and how, after 3 elections, he eventually managed to win and how this could(ve) help(ed) the USA Leftist movement.

A thread:

1) Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, commonly known as AMLO, was the strongest contender in the 2006 election in Mexico. It was a transition time after a Right-Wing Party had been in power for 6 years. AMLO, like Bernie, was politically experienced and called out the establishment..

2) So that naturally made him a threat for the Mexican Political Establishment.

Election night in 2006 came and the results were extremely close (0.6% difference) between him and the right-wing candidate. The right-wing candidate won after a very shady election full of rigging

3) Full of rigging and fraud allegations (just like our 2016). AMLO then took his supporters to the streets for MONTHS to protest this injustice and the middle class of the country, assisted by the MSM, shamed him to no end for it. After that, nothing came from these protests..

4) 2012 came, and with it, new elections. AMLO was running again. This time, his more serious contender was a woman from the incumbent right-wing party and a man from the neolib party (equivalent to the DNC). It's worth noting that in Mexico we have multiple parties, not just 2.

5) And AMLO was in the Leftist party at that time. Election night came and more rigging suspicions immediately arrived. Voter suppression, intimidation, etc, you name it. When the polls were only at 3%, right-wing candidate conceded for NeoLib candidate, even when AMLO was...

6) Winning in some polls. The official count seemed extremely close for the best of the 40% count until suddenly the reporting started giving a very comfortable lead to the NeoLib candidate. We couldn't believe people were voting for someone like him (just like us with Biden)..

7) Eventually AMLO lost another election. This time, he promised he would not call upon his supporters to take to the streets, but he did call out very publicly all the fraud and showed the proof to the MSM, who kept mocking him and trying to discredit him.

But he CALLED IT OUT.

8) Then 2018 came, and yet another election. This was probably gonna be AMLO's last run, since he was getting old. MSM shamed him and said he was the next Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro (sounds familiar?) and that he had lust for power.

9) His closest opponent this time was from the right-wing party. A sociopathic candidate (my diagnosis) very much like Pete Buttigieg, full of platitudes and a disdainful attitude towards the working class. This time, however, the working class was very aware of all the fvckery..

10) And the people were livid against the system. This would've been harder if AMLO had NOT called out the system in a very public way.

Election night came and it finally happened. After three very stressful runs and 18 years, AMLO had won and the Left...

11) And the Left had not only the Executive Branch, but also the Legislative branch in power.

It is worth noting (I forgot to mention earlier) that after the 2012 election and rigging, AMLO CREATED HIS OWN PARTY, a 'true' Left-wing party, which defeated all other parties in '18

12) So the Left finally won, after over 100 years in Mexico, and my point with this whole thread comes next:

What can we learn from this to apply it to the USA Left? In my opinion:

13) *Publicly call out corruption, regardless of smears. No more playing soft or trying to appeal to Middle Class voters.

*Absolutely start a People's Party. An institution that People trust and feel truly connected to.

*Use all the leverage we have: Numbers, votes, everything.

14) And finally,

*Keep trying. Keep trying until we succeed. There is no other way. There's no shortcut, not cheat code, no magic strategy that we can apply. Just keep trying, and we will eventually we will succeed.
