Electric suburban goods locomotives would be of use as lines electrified..
In 1923 2 small 'steeple cab' design locos were built Newport & Jolimont workshops #1100 & 1101

It was decided to build a further 10 locomotives of a box cab design. #1102-1111. Classed as E in 1955.
