I've also seen people worried about asteroid 1998 OR2 which will come close to Earth on April 29th. It will be four million miles away. We know its orbit well. There is zero chance it will hit Earth. (5/n)
Finally, people tie these stories to reports that observatories have closed. Most big telescopes are shut, but for asteroid hunting you use smaller telescopes with wider fields of view. Most searches are automated and many are still operating. (6/n)
In short: There is no known comet or asteroid that poses a danger to Earth. Astronomers would tell you if there were. Go worry about real things. (7/7)
