The Plain Dealer had 340 reporters just two decades ago. A headline for our age.
One news reporter left. Just one.
Good morning. Most in Ohio have followed the Plain Dealer saga of late, but there are people elsewhere who might not be familiar.

Yes, it's true that the PD staff has gone from 340 ---> 4.

Yes, it's also true that PD's ownership has 70 @clevelanddotcom reporters remaining.
How might that be, you're asking? I'll refer you to this harsh-but-true summary from @SceneSallard for @ClevelandScene, which lays it all out.

In short, it was a union bust via separated, co-existing newsrooms; with PD (unionized) getting decimated. clevescene.com/scene-and-hear…
That's the thing about running separate newsrooms for years. They kill off one half & when people acknowledge that, they suddenly turn around & say: "No, no, ... in combination, there are actually 74 of us working together as one to serve Cleveland!"

The PD erasure remains true.
Hey folks,

I'd appreciate if you'd give my outlet @OhioCapJournal a follow. We're an independent, nonprofit newsroom. Our reporting also serves many local newspapers around Ohio, informing citizens about their state gov't/legislature.
