1/9 On #Channel4News @alextomo tells us the #frontlinestories of key workers who feel invisible

The refuse collecters, shelf-stackers and bus drivers who keep the UK ticking over in lockdown

One cleaner told us: "Every day I am going to work, risking my life, for £9.41 an hour"
2/9 The hospital cleaner says they were told they didn't need eye protection because "we aren't treating patients". Only on their second #COVIDー19 ward shift did a concerned nurse give them the full PPE. NHS Tayside told us they strictly follow all guidance on appropriate PPE.
3/9 In London, an employee at Iceland told us that regional management had said to staff that they "should not be limiting the number of customers in the store at any one time... [because] the store was not making as much profit as other stores."
4/9 The employee also said that Iceland "has told staff at [our] store that they will not be installing any screens [to protect cashiers] until 17th April". In response Iceland said screens have been installed today, and the process would be completed by the end of the week.
5/9 Iceland Foods also said they were "in awe of the commitment and dedication" of their employees and pointed out that they were one of the first grocers to provide dedicated shopping time for NHS workers and the vulnerable.
6/9 We also spoke to a London bus driver who told us: "I think five bus drivers have died from coronavirus from my company alone."

They said: "For the past month there have been no wipes at the sign in desk...And the hand sanitiser dispensers have been empty." #frontlinestories
7/9 The bus driver also said: "There's no social distancing measures in the mess rooms. I'm so surprised TfL haven't shut these, or taken the tables out."

In response, TfL told us that the safety of all their transport staff is their "absolute priority" and they have already...
8/9 provided deep bus cleaning, improved distancing for drivers & are working on further protecting the driver's cab. Metroline say they follow guidance strictly & that the safety of their employees is a priority & they will continue to do everything possible to protect workers.
