I haven’t been this broken in a long time. 
Many of you have met Fiasco on video calls over the last few weeks. Many more of you have heard me rave about him over the last nearly decade that I have had him. He is family.
Over the weekend I noticed some peculiar differences in his behavior. He was more interested in water but not drinking. He meowed at his food but was never finishing it. The very same treats he broke into my cabinets for one day were left uneaten the next.
My concerns increased as I found matted fur on his legs and noticed he was drooling.
My parents have been making and sending duas since I told them yesterday.
This morning I was able to get him in to see a veterinarian on a same day appointment. Doing so in the middle of a pandemic means I could not go in to the clinic with him. 15 minutes in to his exam, the doctor called me.
She said they found a cancerous mass under his tongue. It is in an inoperable location. Radiation is an option and could extend his life some but would not cure him. It is also a lot to put his body through.
She gave him some steroids to minimize the mass and enable him to eat. Her recommendation was that I take a few days to be with him but bring him back before the steroids wear off.
The most humane thing to do is to put him to sleep. His health will not got better from here, and delaying the inevitable is selfish at best and cruel at worst.
I just can’t stop crying.
