BITCOIN #DATAPORN

🇺🇸 A brief history of bitcoin data visualisation.

----------------------------------

🇧🇷 Uma breve história da visualização de dados no Bitcoin
2/

2012. Shamir (the S in RSA) publishes “Quantitative Analysis of the Full Bitcoin Transaction Graph”.

This is one of the oldest formal depictions of UTXO-tracking out there.

3/

2014. Satoshi’s coins were a focus of interest early on.

Look at this fun forensic analysis of 50 BTC mined on block 9 (supposedly by Satoshi).
4/

2014. gbianchi groups UTXOs by their BTC amounts.

It’s probably the first time this technique is published and thourughly explored.

He also hints at the first applications of Metcalfe’s Law to Bitcoin.

5/

2014. Trololo inaugurates the infamous log regression analysis on BTC prices.

6/

This log regression would be popular for years to come, being exhaustively adjusted to new data.

7/

2014. @jratcliff (a videogame developer!) expands on the techniques for grouping UTXOs, and segregates them by “age”.

His 3D renderings are the predecessors to the modern #HODLWaves.

2016. “Visualizing Dynamic Bitcoin Transaction Patterns” is published and turned into “Bitcoin #dataporn” for the DSI’s Global Data Observatory, at the @ImperialCollege in London.

@Jack has tweeted about this once.

A few years later @TheImperialDuke would expand on similar methods, using Gephi’s ForceAtlas2 algorithm.

10/

2017. @timothyej comes up a simple, bicolored, static design for portraying the UTXO set.

11/

2018. @UnchainedCap’s @dhruvbansal coigns the famous #HODLWave visualisation.

@TamasBlummer (RIP) and many others help popularise it.

12/

2018. @sunitram manifests the UTXO set in all its glory.

His graph of all unspent bitcoin transactions is a pixel perfect picture of the ledger's "balances" over time.

2019. @TakensTheorem goes meta in interactive visualisations of correlations between distinct metrics.

14/

🔥 BTW @TakensTheorem’s been on fire lately - a very worthy follow if you like this kind of stuff.

15/

2020. @mutatru cleverly uses space + color to portray historical BTC fiat gains.
