Another very underrated Character, in the Mahabharata, is the fascinating character of Vidura. At any given point in time of the whole Mahabharata, it is Vidura is the only guy who does everything to prevent it.

Vidura was supposed to be Dristarashtra's brother, but ends up being his half-brother. The story of his conception is awesome in itself, but I won't get into that. Vidura is the only person, who imbibes all of his father Vyasa's wisdom and has no defects like his siblings

But being a Half Brother, also gives him a big advantage. He has no familial relationship or blood ties to anyone in Mahabharata.

His allegience is to Hastinapur and Hastinapur alone.

And because of this, at any given point in Time in the Mahabharata, it is Vidura's advise that is the calmest, sanest and the most rational. In fact, it is he, who saves the Pandavas from the Wax house fire. And he vehemently argues against the war.

Which is where, his only disadvantage comes to the fore. He isn't vehement enough. He tells Bheeshma that it was Duryodhan, who planned the wax fire, but doesn't forcefully follow up with it. So it gets ignored. In fact, mostly, he preferes to walk away, rather than argue.

Probably this habit of his, lead everyone to the destructive war.

And In many ways, Vidura is our Conscience. It tells us what is right and what is wrong. It warns us, albeit silently, that there could be repurcrussions of something we that we do or plan to do.

It even tell us that it is wrong.

But if we, with our ego and pride ignore it or counter it, it will slink away.

And we will get into trouble for ignoring the Vidura inside all of us.

P:S : Lord Krishna says at the end of the war, that if Vidura had decided to join the Kauravas, He would have broken his vow and joined the fight.

in other words, Vidura is so powerful, that You need an actual God to stop Him.

If ever your Conscience joins you in your fight in life, it is safe to say, that no power on earth can stop you.
