A “safe space” should be where you are honest and vulnerable — a place where you can be your whole self without apology. But if your #safespace empowers your mental illness, enables your addiction, or encourages your self-destructive destructive behavior, it’s not safe at all.
If your #chosenfamily likes to lick your wounds and wants to play with your demons, but doesn’t actually help you toward healing (or worse, feels betrayed by your growth), then perhaps they’re not a very good choice.
Don’t confuse a place that is comfortable and welcoming to you with a place that is safe and good for you.
