Something very important is happening in Virginia.

The Dem takeover of state government, fueled by anti-Trump fervor, is now allowing for the first big reversal of what the Tea Party wave wrought:

* Voting rights
* gun reforms
* ACA expansion

Virginia sits at the nexus of Trump-era trends -- demographic shifts, Dem gains in the suburbs.

Now the gains from those trends are reversing the gains of the 2010 Tea Party ascendancy.

Dems hope this is a model for more state-level gains to come:

It's often debated whether the Democratic gains in the suburbs could ultimately undercut progressive possibilities.

But in VA, we're seeing right now that those gains are undoing the damage of years of right wing rule.

At bottom, Trump's efforts to foment rebellion against legitimately elected governors reflect his ongoing claim that Democratic governance is fundamentally illegitimate.

What we're seeing here is a very deep contempt for democracy itself.

Remember "Second Amendment remedies"?

That phrase was infamously used by a tea party Senate candidate in 2010, to hint at the possibility of armed rebellion against the Dem Congress.

We're hearing similar language from today's anti-lockdown protests:

You can draw a straight line from the tea party's ugly rhetoric about "takers," right through to Trump's treatment of Democratic governors as illegitimate.

Biden just released a tough new ad hitting Trump for leaving us "exposed" to China.

That's good, but let's add more:

Trump didn't praise China to save his trade deal. He did it to prop up the epic lie that the virus was under control here.

The idea that Trump praised China's handling of coronavirus to preserve his trade deal misses the truly depraved nature of what really happened.

His praise of China was central to sustaining the monstrous lie that we didn't have to worry about it here.

One last point. Biden might consider leaning harder into an expansive defense of reality-based multilateralism, and contrast that with Trump's insane effort to defund the World Health Organization and his ludicrous performative nationalism:
