Dear reader,

I know you don't need to read about Colin Wright in this pandemic year. Please forgive me for posting about him; I'm merely documenting because I know we will continue to hear about him as he's trying to launch his public post-academy career.

Yours,
Woke Sauron

A week ago I posted the above linked thread about Colin Wright's announcement to leave academia. I noted his promotional attempts in the thread.

I have two follow ups to that. 2/
First, something I didn't point out at the time: please observe how someone who has been trained for years--at a very high level--in biological research makes no meaningful links between his specialized knowledge and the post-academic career that he's crafting for himself. 3/
I've pointed out in previous threads that aside from his insistence on biological sex being binary, he has not actually shown his academic qualifications in action. Instead, he presses his strange view that sex as binary is the key thing to consider in all questions LGBTQ. 4/
The latter is a shockingly amateur understanding of gender identity, disconnected from any research and empirical discussion on the question. It's an uninformed lay person's perspective, but tantalizingly buttressed with reference to a biology degree. 5/

Occasionally, Colin Wright comments on questions of language and discourse--areas of research and discussion in which he also has no training and exhibits a sad lack of understanding. 6/

Second, when Colin published his thread on leaving academia, I questioned the veracity of his claim that several department chairs had said they'd consider hiring him "but that they were quite sure HR would block the attempt citing liability concerns." 7/

Colin has responded to my question, in a way, by agreeing to a long profile in *The Daily Caller* where he repeats his claim and *The Daily Caller* enforces it with zero fact checking. Where's the evidence that uni HR depts "gatekeep" in this way? 8/
Let's pause.

1. Biology post-doc publishes op-ed & many, many tweets making specious claims about gender identity & sexual orientation.

2. He has an unsuccessful year in a notoriously tough job market.

3. Part of his work is touched by this scandal. 9/

Now, he wants us to believe that as a self-identified left-learning person it is a fine thing to have *The Daily Caller* profile his personal career struggles. That as someone so concerned about his reputation, he should present this site to us as a trustworthy source. 10/
I don't think so.

As I said, this is not an honest analysis of his situation. It is a PR push for, quite likely, more specious claims to come.

Or, perhaps it will be no more than repetition of the same flimsy binary sex claims to which he's shown himself to be so attached. 11/
