I choose to believe that the Elise in Beethoven's "Für Elise" was not any woman in Beethoven's life, but rather was a reference to Pygmalion's statue, whom Goethe -- of whom Beethoven was a huge fan -- names Elise.
After all, Beethoven composed several songs set to Goethe's poetry, as well as the music for a Goethe play.

Pygmalion's statue (or "ivory woman") that he creates and then falls in love with, doesn't officially have a name, and is often called Galatea. But Goethe calls her "Elise"...
