For those men who like me are appalled by the behaviour of the few here are some resources to watch. @TEDTalks by friend @jacksontkatz A go to for me. Men have a clear role in prevention of all forms of violence. Why? Because men commit most of it 1/8
Now, i know it's not all men. But it's just enough to "Fuck it up for the rest of us". Another piece by Katz talking about men's role in prevention. Whilst we need to hold men accountable we also need to explore the culture that supports abuse. 2/8
We can walk and chew gum at the same time. Hold perps accountable but at same time inspect our culture. Yes it may be uncomfortable but move past this. Check out @TEDTalks by @TonyPorterACTM Learn to explore the culture that boys and men live in 3/8
It's in the air. In many ways it a bit like oxygen. Prevention needs to focus more on culture. See by @DavidMorrisonAU The Standard You Walk Past is the Standard You Accept. He perfectly articulates the bystander approach i was taught by @jacksontkatz 4/8
People often critique me for working in this field. We all have a place at the table. I know people (some very close to me) who have been affected by abuse. I lost my dad to suicide. Thats why i work in this field. Just because i retired from policing doesnt mean i back off 5/8
What's happening to @DrJessTaylor and other women is wrong. They are speaking up for victims and working to prevent further victims. As said women like her don't need our support however it doesn't mean we do nothing. An old blog but relevant grahamgoulden.com/2020/04/20/ten… 6/8
So if your benchmark is "I don't abuse" then for me thats not good enough. It's time for action. What say you guys? 7/8
