For the past month, I've been focusing on how to help companies as an owner or CEO.

Today, I got to thinking about things from an employee perspective. Regardless of perceived job security, here are 10 ideas:
1) Cut your monthly expenses to whatever extent possible
2) Update your resume
3) Touch base with neglected contacts in your network, share how your company is doing, ask about theirs
4) Practice self-care: workout, eat healthy, meditate, video chat w/ friends
5) Make sure you know how to collect your stimulus check
6) Be aware of current unemployment benefits and how to access them
7) Preemptively understand how COBRA health insurance works (cost, duration, etc.)
8) Build new, marketable skills - take classes online, seek out mentors
9) Build out a worst-case scenario budget and cash forecast
10) Look for ways to add value at your job. Make your manager's job easier.

If the shutdown extends, healthy firms today may not be soon. Preparation eases stress and allows for a proactive response and a softer landing
