Research into Indian media companies. Who owns the news & media.
As in America, it seems power in the top media companies in India all comes down to a small, intertwined group of elites. Same thing that happened in US left media. Here are a few from my rough afternoon research
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, Owned by the Essel Group.
Among their major holdings: Zee Turner Limited, owned 50% with Turner Broadcasting of the US.
These pictures shows their “properties”
Dish TV India is also owned by Essel Group under Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited
Note DishTV Merger with Videocon d2h. Also, Zing is a subsidiary of DishTV so all owned by Zee/Essel
Some of the latest developments with ZEEL over the past few years. Not the joint venture DMC with Zee and the Dainik Bhaskar Newspaper group & mojority stake in the Reliance Broadcast Network & the 50/50 joint venture with Star Den
D.B. Corp Limited The Dainik Bhaskar Group
Dainik Bhaskar is tied into ZEEL (Essel Group) with the DMC (Dubai Media City) joint venture. So you have ZEEL & Dainik Bhaskar investing millions into a Dubai, UAE media company.
TV18 Broadcast Limited is owned by
Network18 Media & Investments Limited
Owns and operates various channels of the US based NBCUniversal group.
Reliance Industries Ltd took control of Network18 in 2014 under their wholly owned subsidiary Independent Media Trust
Reliance Industries and Reliance Group are separate companies both founded by the Ambani family so the crossover is there. Reliance Industries = TV18 (Network18) Reliance Group > Reliance Broadcast (ZEEL majority stake)
So far you see ZEEL (Essel Group) & Reliance and the crossover with the media consumed by Indian citizens. I decided to do this to see how much power in media was concentrated in the hands of a few.
Bennett Coleman and Company Limited, better known as The Times Group
Television channels of The Times Group
A little background on The Times Group ownership which is privately owned & operated by the Jain family.
Major holdings Entertainment Network India Limited which is a subsidiary of Times Infotainment Media Limited and who knows how much more. A rabbit hole for someone else to venture.
TV Today Network Limited owned by Living Media India Limited doing business as India Today Group, a private company owned by Aroon Purie & family, World Media Private Limited (a private company) and IGH Holdings Private Ltd. (a private company)
“shareholders of Living Media India Limited are the World Media private Limited (48.15%), IGH holding Private Limited (41.50%) and Aroon Purie and family (10.35%). Purie family through Living Media India Limited holds 5.94% share of TV Today Network Ltd.“
"100% share of IGH holding Private Limited is owned by Essel Mining and Industries Limited." Which is part of the Aditya Birla Group"
Businesses of India Today Group
Joint ventures and foreign brands of the India Today Group.
Start checking who owns the media you consume. When media power is consolidated into the hands of a few, you see matching "story lines" & agenda driven propaganda exactly as we see in India & international left media & Islamic State media propaganda against India/Hindus.
Some of your favorite independent media.
The Wire, which was started specifically to respond to Modi's being elected.

The Scroll, which received funding from Pierre Omidyar. The website I am linking to here has an extensive database so provide a good resource. If you want to know who owns the media, look it up.
