Quick thread on Composite charts:
* if you’re a beginner you shouldn’t worry about this for now

• What are they? A fictional chart of a relationship; the energy two people create when they get together unlike Synastry which studies the compatibility between two birth charts.
• There are two ways of calculating one:
1. The midpoint method (the midpoint between every planet of both charts) (commonly used)
2. Reference point method (midpoint between 2 MCs calculated first to obtain a geographical latitude of the reference place) Astro.com
• This third chart isn’t and shouldn’t be read like a natal chart. Firstly bc you will notice some contradictions and abnormalities. Eg: Sun opp. Mercury, Sun opp. Venus which, as you know, are not possible.
• As Robert Hand points out, the oppositions should be interpreted like a conjunction instead.
Secondly, the planets and points no longer describe an individual but a relationship, so the interpretation naturally changes, too.
• eg; the Ascendant in the natal chart is first impressions, our ‘mask’, how we approach life, how we appear to others.
In Composite, Ascendant is how the couple appears to the public. It can also be descriptive of how they met, the conditions such as where? How? Etc
• Consequently, the Sun will describe the overall identity of the relationship, Moon the intimacy and emotional atmosphere when the two get together etc
It is common to have Stelliums in a house with Composite, to insist on the theme of that house.
• As with Synastry, planets in certain houses do better than others. 1st; angular house; house of the self, 5th; creativity, pleasure; romance, children 7th; partnership, marriage (+ 11th ; friendship) + planets in other angular houses also show that the relationship has purpose
Eg: 4th: sense of familiarity, very emotional; might be sharing a house, deep psychological involvement.

10th: usually found with business partnerships, a couple with purpose/goal, very public relationship etc
•Following the idea, planets in the 6th and 12th house are not usually preferred as:
6th: house of service, sense of inequality/inferiority between the partners; feeling like relationships is labour.

12th: deals with either unacknowledged behaviors/feelings -
That subconsciously affect the relationship. No sense of direction or not well defined; what exactly is this relationship? Can also mean secret relationship, kept away from the public
• As I’m keeping this thread short quickly on the aspects:
As with any chart, easy aspects such as trine, conjunction (depends) & sextile mean easy flow of energy and harmony while hard aspects (square, opposition, conjunction, inconjunction)= conflict, hardship
Eg: Venus square Mars (or square/opposition from Pluto to either one) can mean great attraction but could also mean pb with power dynamics within the relationship.
Moon trine Mercury; good communication, ability to talk about feelings.
* this also means (usually) ability to separate rational thought from emotions so a hard aspect can mean misunderstandings, one takes what the other says to heart, gets easily offended/hurt by their words..
If you’re interested in knowing more, I highly recommend Robert Hand’s book, Planets in Composite
PS: It's important to look at two birth charts separately before commenting their Composite to understand these people's individual expectations from a relationship (condition of the Moon, Venus, Mars, 5th house, 7th house)
