I have so nothing to say about Earth Day, it's as though I somehow have a negative amount of things to say, as though I am absorbing rather than emitting takes.
Actually, one thought: if I could persuade every public figure & politician of one thing, it would be to stop saying that "the planet" is at risk from climate change. For one thing, it's just factually inaccurate -- there's no chance of the planet going anywhere -- but moreso ...
... it just immediately restricts the receptive audience to those who think of themselves as environmentalists, as nature people. Most people care about themselves, their families, their communities ... "the Earth" is way down on that list. It's an unnecessary identity signal.
Maybe you think we should care about other species & ecosystems as much as we care about ourselves, and good for you, but that's just not where most people are. Why narrow your message to like-minded people?
The truth is that climate change threatens, among other animals, *people*. It will yield hunger, displacement, migration, and conflict among human societies. It's already happening. Lots more humans care about other humans than about "the planet," so why not go broad? </grump>
