They’re doing a great job of explaining that the upcoming “opening” in Ohio will basically be a controlled experiment. I wish it would be framed this way on a national level.
Most importantly, every single move with this opening will be based in science and facts. Each step of the way, they’ll assess what happens with science and data, recalibrate, then move forward.
They are trying to avoid moving backwards at all costs. Which means being cautious and making decisions based on facts, not PR.
This will give people the *confidence* to do more (or not), knowing that steps and decisions are being taken based on facts, not feelings.
They’ve said over and over that this will not happen quickly. I would rather have the truth than be told what I want to hear. In fact, Dr. Acton talked about this on Tuesday—that it’s difficult to maintain hope if you don’t know the truth.
The fact that he consistently either says “I don’t know” or lets an expert answer something he doesn’t know is also very reassuring. DeWine has surrounded himself with the absolute best he can find + isn’t concerned with PR or credit. He listens to his experts.
