Concerning the spike in domestic violence cases, Women Aid Collective (WACOL) has recorded over 40 cases of violence against women and girls reported directly and being handled by our organization since last week in the month of 30 March, 2020 when the Covid-19 lockdown started.
In fact, we received 12 cases within the first week of April. Undoubtedly, these cases are a pointer to a pandemic of violence against women and girls upon the Coronavirus pandemic and urgent action is required, including special police rapid response and dedicated numbers that
service providers and organizations like WACOL can use to assist victims/survivors during this lockdown that restricts movement and operation of Courts where suspects should be charged. #safehome
