I know it's a couple days old now, but I'm still thinking about this NYT piece. The US president spends *most of his day* watching cable news. Everything he does is in reaction to it. It's such a gaping, horrific, unfathomable truth that the US body politic just can't absorb it.
Like ... we took the modal ignorant, whiny, grumpy old white guy watching Fox all day ... and elected him president! And he still watches Fox all day! He still learns everything he knows from Fox! I feel like I need to keep repeating these things until they seem real.

I am developing a violent allergic reaction to this kind of "must." Liberals are forever talking with one another about what "must" happen, but the people in charge just don't give a fck. Come up with a plan to sieze & deploy political power or shut up. bbc.com/news/science-e…

I'm old enough to remember when the US "must" respond to 9/11 with wisdom & equanimity and "must not" respond by building an authoritarian surveillance state & flailing off to invade random countries. Oops! All that "must" was vapor, just smoke blown aside by reactionary fury.

Here's a question: how has virus/quarantine/etc. affected your productivity at work? Are you able to concentrate & get things done?
Interesting answers. For my part, I feel 10X as stressed but 1/10 as productive. I can't think of things to write about (every post feels like the last idea I'll ever have) & writing itself is a slog. I'm somehow working more, time-wise, but producing much, much less. Blech.
Doesn't help that I work at a place where everyone has responded to the virus like f'ing heroes -- just an amazing outpouring of creativity & energy & empathy. Meanwhile I'm like an appendix, no one can even figure out what I'm doing in there any more.
