Completely incoherent, total lack of urgency. Rambling, defensive, bloodless. We’re on week 7 of this and Pelosi is just now getting around to perhaps, maybe sorta considering a basic income—e.g. the only policy that can meaningfully counter the GOP’s “open the economy” narrative
Again Pelosi focuses her messaging on “getting our money’s worth” and oversight of aid packages that are overwhelmingly handouts to the rich and corporations. Oversight is perfectly fine but this is limp Good Govt bullshit that doesnt speak to the material needs of the avg person
someone waiting in line at a food bank for five hours or rationing medication for their children DOESNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT “WASTE”. The only thing any democrat should be talking about is HOW ARE YOU GOING TO HELP SUFFERING PEOPLE IN CLEAR, CONCRETE POLICY TERMS
This was roughly a week into this crisis. Pelosi rejected the idea of cash payouts out of hand. This is when House dems completely ceded the narrative and policy debate to republicans. Once you take this away you have nothing left to debate except how best to ration the scraps
