I hope more and more Americans across the country are seeing that:

1) New York state is the worst-run state in the country;

2) Democrats are responsible for this mismanagement;

3) centrist Democrats crushing the left are the specific mismanagers.

New York has had the worst public health response by its governor (@NYGovCuomo) in this pandemic.

New York state also engages in wide-scale voter suppression under Cuomo, who leads the Democratic Party machine.

NY also practices austerity in a pandemic.

.@RossBarkan and @ZephyrTeachout have very cleanly deconstructed @NYGovCuomo, who refuses to support a wealth tax, has slashed Medicaid, & is practicing austerity in the face of massive suffering and unemployment, all while Mike Bloomberg goes into hiding

New York under @NYGovCuomo in this pandemic is like San Francisco the past 30 years under Silicon Valley's growing influence:

DEMOCRATS are responsible for the moral, social and economic rot, but not leftists.

Cuomo in NY, Pelosi in SF, two neoliberal peas in a Dem Party pod.
One of the greatest political myths of my lifetime is that Democrats are leftists.

The Democratic Party -- if you read its history the past 40 years, chronicled by @RyanGrim in this book -- has constantly screwed the left, 2020 being the latest example:

Corporate, neoliberal Democrats -- who receive favorable coverage from New York-based elite media -- keep shitting on the left without consequence because they know the media, owned by billion-$ interests, has no financial incentive to call them on their austerity bullcrap.
The Democrats' clear rightward shift under Trump -- to a more affluent, professional segment of voters, away from young people and the working class -- might be disgusting, but it makes sense in terms of maintaining power.

Young people haven't yet proved they can vote them out.
.@MSNBC and @CNN continue to portray @NYGovCuomo as one of the good guys in this pandemic. This is revolting, but again, it makes sense:

Cuomo has gone all-in on protecting massive monied interests; he is a bulwark against reform. He has his brother to carry the banner on CNN.
With people unable to protest in the streets in large numbers, we're seeing smash-and-grab opportunism from all the concentrated, monied interests in the country, all while, as my brother noted over the weekend, citizens are emotionally exhausted by Trump and the pandemic.
It is a perfect opportunity for @NYGovCuomo to realize his dream of an austerity budget with the weakened, exhausted left unable to successfully oppose him.

It's autocratic in the extreme, but enabled by scores of centrist, neoliberal Democrats who tell the public to eat shit.
Structurally and institutionally, @NYGovCuomo does have all the advantages: the media is in his corner, citizens can't protest yet (not safely), most Dems in Albany are neoliberal and not left, and he has a firm alliance with Wall Street. It makes sense he is operating this way.
However, the course of human events is what can still change political realities -- perhaps not in 2020, but down the line.

If enough New Yorkers suffer profoundly enough and long enough, the pandemic lifting before 2022 elections could finally blow up @NYGovCuomo's machine.
It will take citizens rising up, though, and to be perfectly honest, contemporary America before the pandemic was simply not a place where protest culture is widely treasured or cherished.

Are New Yorkers ready to get out their pitchforks when this pandemic lifts? We'll see.
