Confirmed: Pres Trump plans to use the Defense Production Act to order meat-processing plants to stay open, and the government will provide additional protective gear for employees as well as guidance, according to a person familiar. He's expected to sign this as early as today.
“President Trump plans to order meat-processing plants to remain open, declaring them critical infrastructure as the nation confronts growing disruptions to the food supply,” a person familiar with the matter tells me.
It's official.

President Trump has signed the executive order using the Defense Production Act to order meat-processing plants to stay open. EO says Secretary of Agriculture shall use the authority to "ensure the continued supply of meat and poultry."

Some will find this language offensive after Adams stressed that behavior was not the issue for why more black ppl are dying.

Context: Many found this language highly offensive.
I asked U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams about asking black people, Latinos & other ppl of color to avoid drinking & drugs & saying do it for "Big Mama" & "abuela."

Adams said he meant no offense, used his family's language & that all Americans should be avoiding substances.

NEW: Statement from Michael Atkinson, Intel Community IG who Pres Trump fired after he told Congress about whistleblower Ukraine complaint.

Atkinson says he was "legally obligated to ensure that whistleblowers had an effective and authorized means to disclose urgent matters."
Atkinson says he is "disappointed and saddened" to be removed from his role as Intel Community IG. He says, "I have never been a political or partisan person...I have spent my entire 17-year career as a public servant acting without regard to partisan favor or political fear."
Atkinson also says: "It is important to remember, as others have said, that the need for secrecy in the U.S. Intelligence Community is not a grant of power, but a grant of trust. Our government benefits when individuals are encouraged to report suspected fraud, waste, and abuse."
