Six years ago today, me and @SamHuff74 started out on #Route66, covering the entire length in a @LexusUK LS 460. This is the 'start line' on W Adams Street, Chicago IL...
1/many over the next ten days or so
The first stop on #Route66 was Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket. The owner, Patrick, is a wonderful man and spent an age with us telling us all about the fantastic history of the restaurant that's been there since the 20s.
If you're in Chicago, take a drive out to @chicken1basket 👍🍗
Not far from Dell Rhea's on #Route66 is a now-disused prison made famous in a classic 1980 movie. Recognise it from this photo?
Perhaps replace the @LexusUK LS 460 with a Dodge Monaco...

Another half-hour along #Route66 in Wilmington IL is the Gemini Giant, one of the road's more famous landmarks that's stood alongside the Launching Pad Diner since 1965.
The 30-foot 'muffler man' has recently been fully restored. We should probably go back to check it out...

Further along #Route66 is the town of Bloomington IL, home of @BEERNUTS. Naturally, we had to stop.
Sadly, there's no beer in them; they're so-called as they're perfect with beer! We have to agree...

Passing through @enjoyillinois on #Route66, you'll stumble across Funks Grove Maple Sirup, producing maple syrup for 196 years, as well as another muffler man - Paul Bunyon, in Atlanta - before finding Lincoln on a giant covered wagon in Lincoln, IL...

Just a few miles along #Route66 from Lincoln, IL is Springfield, which is where you'll find Lincoln. Well, Abraham Lincoln's tomb.
7/
We'd heard of corn dogs, but never tried one, so when we found the home of the 'original' corn dog, the Cozy Dog Drive In on #Route66 at Springfield, IL, we had to stop.
I'm sure some people love these, but I don't feel the need to rush back...

From Springfield, IL, it's an easy drive along #Route66 to St Louis, MO. You'll see all sorts of stuff, including drive-by prayers, countless abandoned gas stations, and a cheap homage to Cadillac Ranch...
9/
Over the years, #Route66 moved various times, but we took the alignment that took as to the Chain of Rocks Bridge, before heading over the Mississippi River to St Louis, MO, and its Gateway Arch. It was closed.

And that was day one of covering the entire length of #Route66 with the @LexusUK LS 460. Just time for a healthy* dinner at @SteaknShake before retiring to a @HiltonHotels for the night.
Tomorrow: Jesse James, a rocking chair, a telescope and some pornography.

If you followed this far, day two, St Louis to Joplin, starts at :-)
