This is a letter written by Irrfan Khan to Shamsur Rahman Farooqi sahib expressing his deep admiration for his magnum opus ‘Kai Chand the Sar e Aasman’ کئ چاند تھے سر آسمان۔ Reveals his good taste, grace & deep appreciation for civilizational heritage.
But equally also his great humility. What a loss!

“Dear shamsur rahman sahab, aadab. Firstly forgive my writing skills I am very very limited in converting my thoughts into written language. But will try non the less.
I was fortunate to speak to you as I have been trying
for quite some time to get in touch with you at last I could.
For years I have a relationship with stories being in the field of cinema.
Stories for me are the biggest platform for sharing my self with the audience…stories which become a part of me…stays with me, speaks to me
again n again for months n years…stories telling newer aspects of life ,stories which evolves me expresses me. I try n choose stories keeping this in mind, sometimes successfully some times not and incidentally few of the films I am really pleased are adapted from literary works
one was shakespear’s Macbeth made into a film called maqbool by vishal bhardwaj ..another one was “the namesake” which was based on pultizer prize winner novel by jhumpa lahiri directed by mira nair and the latest one was “ the life of pi” by Oscar winner ang lee and written by
yann martel an absolutely delightful journey of man alone on sea with a tiger as a companion for several months, a philosophical take on coexistence of species and finding faith.. as the saying goes you don’t find books book finds you..
i have a feeling your book found me…
i read your book recently and was mesmerized ...your magical narrative ,the intimate insight of inner n outer world of the shining n declining era leaves me speechless …the elegance ,grace , pathos , beauty , romance , obsession, seduction, enigma , illusion, the cruel reality
of Time...the beauty of eternity n oneness.
my description of your creation would never be able to do justice to it.
it seems like it simmered inside you for decades n decades before it took shape in this book …
since I have read the book ,it refuses to get out of my system..
I feel possessed .
my desires is to now share it with the audience of cinema n television keeping intact the beauty n the sprit of the book.
I humbly seek your permission for that.
Mere liye jo bhi hukm ho farmaiyega, muntazir rahunga.
Ek adna sa actor, irrfan”

RIP #IrrfanKhan
