1/ It’s been 100 days since officials confirmed the first US COVID-19 case. We built a timeline of Trump's response.

Here’s a condensed version…
2/ On January 22, two days after the first case of COVID-19 in the United States was confirmed, Trump was asked if his administration was worried about an impending pandemic. “No, we’re not at all,” he replied. “And we have it totally under control.”
3/ On January 28, Trump held a rally in New Jersey. He did not mention the coronavirus.
4/ On January 30, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a “public health emergency of international concern.” On the same day, at an event in Michigan, Trump said, “We think it’s going to have a very good ending for it. So that I can assure you.”
5/ On February 1, Trump went golfing.
6/ On February 10, at a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, Trump said, “Looks like by April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.”
7/ On February 11, Trump held a rally in El Paso. He did not mention the coronavirus.
8/ On February 14, Trump said, “We have a very small number of people in the country, right now, with it. It’s like around 12. Many of them are getting better. Some are fully recovered already. So we’re in very good shape.”
9/ On February 15, Trump went golfing.
10/ On February 19, 20, and 21, Trump held rallies in Phoenix, Colorado Springs, and Las Vegas. He did not mention the coronavirus at any of them.
11/ On February 24, Trump tweeted this:
12/ On February 27, at a Black History Month event, Trump said, the coronavirus "is going to disappear. One day—it’s like a miracle—it will disappear.”
13/ On February 28, at a rally in Charleston, Trump said, “You wonder if the press is in hysteria mode…Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. You know that, right? Coronavirus. They’re politicizing it….And this is their new hoax.” bit.ly/2yUtJFI
14/ On March 6, during a visit to the CDC, Trump said, “Anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. They have the tests. And the tests are beautiful.”
15/ On March 7 and 8, Trump went golfing.
16/ On March 10, when asked about the economic impact of the coronavirus, Trump said, “We’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”
17/ On March 11, the WHO declared the coronavirus a pandemic.
18/ On March 24, COVID-19 cases were surging in New York.

On the same day, at a Fox News virtual town hall, Trump said, “I would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter.”
19/ By March 26, the United States had more reported coronavirus cases than any other country. On the same day, Trump said, “Nobody would have ever thought a thing like this could have happened.”
20/ On April 1, Mike Pence told CNN, “I don’t believe the president has ever belittled the threat of the coronavirus.”

22/ On April 20, a reporter asked Trump if he thought he downplayed the coronavirus by holding rallies in February and March. “Oh, I don’t know about rallies. I really don’t know about rallies,” he said. “I haven’t left the White House in months.”
23/ On April 27, the US death toll passed 50,000. On the same day, at his daily briefing, Trump said, “We have enough testing to begin reopening….And the testing is not going to be a problem at all.”
24/ On April 28—100 days after the outbreak started—Trump said, COVID-19 cases “will go down to zero, ultimately.” When asked what will happen if states reopen before there’s a coronavirus vaccine, he said, “I think what happens is it’s going to go away.”
