UPDATE: @Kroger, which planned to eliminate its $2/hour "hero bonus" on Sunday, has announced that it will pay full-time workers a $400 bonus

This is the equivalent of extending the "hero bonus" for 5 weeks.

@kroger This isn't everything @kroger workers DESERVE.

Kroger will pay part-time workers $200.

Importantly, it will also continue its expanded paid sick leave policy that it put in place after public pressure in March.

In the long run, journalism needs to be completely decoupled from corporate advertising
The layoffs in journalism are gut-wrenching and many of the people impacted are my friends.

It's important to understand that the economic shock has NOTHING TO DO WITH INTEREST IN JOURNALISM, which is stronger than ever
The shrinking of legacy and "new" media ventures is a tragedy but also an opportunity for journalists

There are thousands of stories that should be told that are not being told

And people are willing to pay for those stories

UPDATE: @Kroger just disclosed CEO Rodney McMullen received $21 MILLION in compensation in 2019

The details of his compensation package may explain why McMullen is so eager to end the "hero bonus," cutting wages by $2/hour in the middle of a pandemic
