Let us pray!
My Father, my Lord and my God, we want to appreciate your Hold name, we thank You Most High because you're God and there's none beside you. Thank you for the gift of life, for the air we breathe...➡
...for the gift of salvation, for your provision and protection Lord we say thank you. As we study your word now speak to our hearts Lord, for in Jesus Most Holy Name i pray... Amen!🙏🏽
In tonight's Bible Study, we're looking at the topic: "The Power Of Praise!"
Now before i go further, the word "Praise" means:
1. Commendation; favorable representation in words.
2. Worship.
While the word "Power" means:
1. Capability or influence.
2. Physical force or strength.
Before i go into the topic proper let me first talk about the word "Prayer to buttress my point." The word prayer is first found in Middle English, meaning to "ask ernestly." It comes from the old French "preier" which is derived from the Latin word "precari"...➡
...which simply means to entreat or ask. Prayer is a form of communication, a way of talking to God. What do i mean by Talking to God?🤷🏼 We often think of prayer as asking God for something. A prayer, properly understood is a conversation with God. Just as we cannot hold a...➡
...conversation with another person unless he can hear us. When we talk to God through prayers, God in turn speaks to us through any of this means: His word, dreams, trans, vision, a still small voice, an audible voice or through His ministers (pastors and prophets).
The very act of praying is an implicit recognition of the presence of God here with us. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us. 1 John 5:14. And in praying, we strengthen that recognition of the presence...➡
...of God, which draws us closer to Him. That is why we were admonished to pray frequently and make prayer an important part of our daily lives. Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing,...➡
...but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41. Briefly let me talk on the types of prayer.
Types of prayer.
1. Prayer of Blessing and Adoration (Worship): In this tyoe of prayer we exalt the greatness of God, and we acknowledge our dependence on Him in all things. Revelation 5:13,...➡
...7:12, Genesis 24:26, 48, 52.
2. Prayer of Petition: In this type of prayer we ask God for things we need, the Lord's prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 is an example. 1 Samuel 1:17, 27, Esther 5:7,8.
3. Prayer of Intercession: It is another form of petition, but we are praying for...➡
...needs of others. 1 Kings 13:6, Romans 8:26, 27, 8:34. 11:2.
4. Prayer of Thanksgiving: It is the most neglected type of prayer. Praying or saying the grace before meal is an example. We should get into the habit of thanking God throughout the day for the good things that...➡
...happens to us and others. Saying the grace or praying after meal is a good way to start. Ephesians 1:16, 1 Thessaloinans 1:2, Philippians 1:4.
Note: "The secret of receiving is by thanking."
5. Prayer of Praise: In this type of prayer, we acknowledge God for what He is...➡
...The book of Psalm is perhaps the best known example of prayers of praise. Prayers of love/charity are another form of prayers of praise, expressions of our love for God the source and object of all love. Exodus 15:11, Deuteronomy 10:21.
This brings me to my main topic:...➡
"The Power of Praise." Lets read in the book of 2 Chronicles 20:1-24, but please permit me to quote only verses 21 and 22. And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the➡
...army and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.
And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
Three (3) great nations joined..➡
...forces to fight againts Israel and when King Jehoshaphat saw them he trembled, he and the elders of Israel consulted God on what to do and they we told to gather "Singers"... Ha...my Father my Father. And God said: don't fight, just Praise me. My brothers and my sisters...➡
...the children of Israel won that battle without fighting, while they were praising God, God was working on their behalf. For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the.➡
...inhabitants of seir, every one helped to destroy another. And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. 2 Chronicles 20:23, 24.
When we "Praise" God, we move his hands to do good things towards us, he fights all our battles, we earn more favors from Him. Remember Paul and Silas in the book of Acts? In Acts 16:16-34, please permit me to quote verses 24 and 25. Who, having received such a charge,...➡
...thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Acts 16:24,25. These great missioneries were imprisoned and bound for casting out familiar spirit from..➡
...a young girl and also for preaching, but rather than weaping or sleeping to await their fate, they "Prayed and sang Praises" and God did what He alone knows how to do best. The prison foundations were shaken, prison doors were opened with every man's chains loosed. Hallelujah!
Now due to their prayer and singing of praises to God, the keeper of the prison and his entire household became saved. Acts 16:30, 33, 34.
Let me compare three great men, what God had to say about them and what differentiated them both in life and ministry.
1. Moses. Deuteronomy 34:10: And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face...
2. Joshua. Joshua 10:14: And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought..➡
...for Israel.
3. David. Acts 13:22: And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.➡
Now out of these three men mentioned above👆🏽👆🏽👆🏽 David for the greatest battles, he had enemies who were after his life ranging from king Saul to his own son Absalom. But David's life was so full of "Praises" unto God David wrote the book of Psalms & he was so full of Praises..➡
...unto God and no wonder he was a man after God's own heart, no wonder Jesus had to come out of the lineage of David.
My brothers and sisters there's Power in Praises. Time will fail me to tell you of real life stories about praises, but let me round off with this...➡➡➡
Watch against self/selfishness and pride.
1. Lucifer. Isaiah 14:12-15. The devil (satan) before his fall from heaven was known as Lucifer, but selfishness & pride made God to cast him down from heaven. In Isaiah 14:12-15 he mentioned "I" 5times.
2. Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel 4:29-37
pride came into the heart of kind Nebuchadnezzar and God drove him into the field to live with the beasts of the field, but in verses 34, 36 and 37, his reason returned until him when he began to Praise God and reverence God.
Note: when God blesses you with gifts, talents, or..➡
...money, watch against pride and selfishness. Whatever you have, inlcuding your life belongs to God, so learn to always "Thank, Praise and Appreciate" Him.
The whole book of Psalm is full of praises until God, but David in Psalm 147:1-20 gave us reasons why we should Praise God.
With this we have come to the end of to tonight's teaching. But please let's spend few minutes just to appreciate God, just say Baba am grateful until you, Baba Thank you.
You Can as well sing songs of Praises, thanksgiving and adoration unto Him.
Father all we have to say is thank You, if all our body were full of tongues it still won't be enough to say Thank You. Let your Word we've studied have a greater impact in our lives, make us doer of your word, this we ask for in Jesus Impregnable Name I pray, Amen.
Thanks to you all for your time, and thanks @ernestadiq for this precious opportunity to minister tonight.
Please am so sorry for taking longer time that expected, promise to keep it brief if opportunity presents itself next time.
