Shri Raghavendra Swamy, also known as 'Guru Rayaru', was a humble yet influential saint who advocated Vaishnavism and the Dvaita philosophy of Shri Madhvacharya.

Among things least spoken about is Shri Guru Raghavendra Swamy's last speech.

Thread 👇
In 1671, just before attaining Jeevasamadhi, Shri Raghavendra Swamy, gave a soul-stirring speech to 100s of devotees who had gathered to watch the event.
The crowd contained devotees & doubters.

The devotees were anxious; they didn't want their beloved Guru to leave them.

Some ppl had come just to make fun of what was going on. And others, were merely curious, to see what would happen if someone entered a Brindhavan alive.
Just before entering the Brindhavan, Shri Raghavendra Swamy addressed the gathering.

His last speech!

The speech delivered rougly 400 yrs ago, had pearls of wisdom, which will make you wonder even today!

Some quotes from that speech are as follows -
1. "Without right living, right thinking will never come."

Right living is performing one's duties without thinking about the after fruits of the actions. This is real Sadachara (right living). This is real Karma Yoga.
2. "One should always be careful never to harm or hurt another."

Live with peace and harmony. Be kind and courteous to others feelings and ideas. Do not hurt the feelings of others. Don’t be proud, be away from egoism. Think about others, act softly, be selfless, polite & kind.
3. "Social work done for the good of worthy people by itself should be considered as the Lord's worship."

In short, our life itself is a worship. Every action is a puja. Every second of our life is precious.

Therefore, help as much as you can to those who seek your aid.
4. "Always keep away from people who claim to perform miracles without following the shastras and yet call themselves God or guru."

Miracles can only be performed by the ones who have mastered the Shastras and Yoga Siddhi.
5. "Right knowledge (jnana) is greater than anything!"

The search for knowledge is never easy.

The shastras have an answer for all our problems. Follow the shastras & put it into practice. The shastraic way of life is the royal road to peace, prosperity and happiness.
6. "Devotion to the Lord should never be blind faith."

Blind faith is not devotion. It is only stupidity. We should have devotion, not only for the Lord, but also for all other deities and preceptors of other faiths and beliefs.
After this Sri Raghavendra Swamy ascended the Brindhavanam and in a very short time he was lost in meditation, of the highest form.

At one stage the japamala in the Guru’s hand became still. His disciples who understood this sign started arranging the slabs around him.
In conclusion, Shri Raghavendra Swamy was not only a humble saint, but an inspirational teacher, another reason why his devotees address him as 'Guru' Rayaru.

Thank you for reading.

Aum Shri Raghavendraya Namaha!🙏
