There should've been only one, but they kept making them. Had a bit of bother tracking down the third one, but that's it arrived now, so I'm going in. #Highlander
Two down, two to go. I've watched Highlander about a million times before. A lot of old codswallop, but entertaining codswallop. I first saw it at the ABC cinema on Sauchiehall St. I was walking past, and met 3 girls I knew from school that were in the Q and joined them...
Clancy Brown enjoying himself as the Kurgen, Sean Connery as an Egyptian called Juan Sanchez Villalobos Ramirez. What's not to like? Two friends named their sons Conner after Christopher Lambert's character. I wouldn't go that far, but 10/10.
Highlander 2, The Quickening. Where to begin? Sean's heart isn't in this, as he regurgitates all his old lines whilst comatose, while "I am Conner MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod, and I was banished from the planet Zeist 500 years ago" is one of cinema's most dispiriting lines ever..
Michael Ironside as the uber-baddie overacts appallingly. The Immortal decapitated by a train is clever, but unoriginal, having been done by Bulgakov in The Master and Margarita. NB Virginia Madsen as the love interest, was in David Lynch's Dune, and is Michael Madsen's sister.
Highlander 3. The Sorcerer made sensible decision to ignore the second film altogether and just copy the first film with Mako as a kinda Ramirez, Deborah Unger as a kinda Brenda, and Mario Van Peebles as a kinda Kurgen. Too many recycled lines from the first film begin to grate..
On the plus side Highlander 3 does come to Scotland for some scenic shots, features the first talking decapitated head in the franchise and a storyline in revolutionary France brings the risk of the guillotine. Passing mention s to Glasgow too. One to go...
And we're done. Highlander Endgame, stretching narrative credibility to its limits to connect the Highlander TV series to the original filmic world. Starts promisingly. Look! The original Rachel and Heather characters appearing...oh! Then immediately dying...
Looks of Scotland. Nice. But in a franchise famous for its dodgy accents Adrian Paul murdering a Scottish accent as Duncan MacLeod takes "The Prize". Lame jokes land flatly, a surfeit of Immortals to populate the new TV universe and with Lambert's MacLeod dead, the end is nigh...
Nice to dip my toes back into the #Highlander cinematic universe. There's the TV movie Highlander:The Source too, but having previously watched it once I feel no compulsion to watch it again. A day-off well spent, and confirms what I knew all along
......"There can be only one!"
First holiday with my future wife, and I dragged her to some of the filming locations. #Highlander
