Feeling a bit homesick so here are some of the words I miss hearing down here:

Drookit (sopping wet)

“Yer breeks are aw drookit, sataboot?”

“Your trousers are sopping wet, what’s all that about?”
Hoaching (busy, crowded)

“Am cuttin aboot getting the messages but it’s hoachin”

“I’m walking around doing the shopping but it’s too busy”
Scunnered (bored)

“Lockdoon has awbody scunnered”

“Lockdown has everyone bored”
Sleekit (sly, sneaky)

“Ah took a keek oot the windae an saw a sleekit fox cuttin aboot by the tattyboggle”

“I took a look out the window and saw a sly fox hanging around the scarecrow”
Glaikit (thoughtless but can also be used in an offensive, insulting way)

“Pence looks aw glaikit while Trump’s haverin’ on”

“Pence looks thoughtless while Trump talks nonsense”
Neeps (turnips)

“Haud on, ah huvnae got ma neeps frae Daisy Mae”

“Wait, I haven’t got my turnips from Daisy Mae”
Clype (to tell on someone or to be someone who does that like a snitch or telltale)

“The wean clyped on him tae the teacher”

“The kid snitched him out to the teacher”
Dauner (a walk)

“Am heidin oot fae a dauner”

“I’m going out for a walk”
Crabbit (bad mood in an angry way, bad tempered)

“He gets awfy crabbit”

“He has a very bad temper”
Dreich (miserable, damp, often about weather)

“Weather’s awfy dreich int it?”

“The weather is miserable isn’t it?”
Scoosh (fizzy drink or a spray of something like an aerosol can)

“Scooshy cream is braw”

“I love whipped cream (the kind you spray from a can)”
Laldy (honestly not entirely sure what the word really means but it’s clear through context)

“Gie it laldy!”

“Give it all you’ve got!” or “Break a leg!”
Bowfing (horrible, disgusting, usually about smells)

“That’s fuckin bowfin” (can also be “hummin”)

“That smells fucking awful”
Blether (a chat or someone who chats a lot)

“The bairn’s haein a wee blether wae the dug”

“The baby’s having a chat with the dog”
Boke (vomit)

“Tha gies me the boke”

“That makes me want to throw up”
Peely wally (pale)

“Yer lookin peely wally”

“You look pale”
Piece (sandwich)

“Haun me a jam piece”

“Hand me a jam sandwich”
Greet (cry)

“Mon, yer wean’s greetin”

“Come, your kid’s crying”
So many words for drunk but the one I miss hearing is blootered
Honourable mentions:
Bahooky (butt, ass)
Shoogle (shake)
Shoogly (wobbly)
Feart (afraid) “am no feart”
Wheesht (be quiet)
Cry (call, as in “what are they called?”)
Skelp (hit, slap)
Stour (dust)
You can also instantly become more Scottish sounding by using any of these in your speech:
Ken (know) - “ah dinnae ken”
Umnae (am not)
Dae(do)
Dinnae (don’t)
Didnae (didn’t)
Willnae (will not)
Widnae (would not)
Mair (more)
Hae (have)
Hame (home)
Wan (one as in the number)
Yin (one as in “a good one”)
Obviously noo, aboot, toon etc. Congrats, you now have enough knowledge to do an impression that isn’t och aye the noo
A lot of these words I often don’t realise I miss until I’m around Scottish people and it feels real nice. What words do you miss hearing? From home? From somewhere you used to live? Or do you wanna share some more good Scottish words?
Here’s one that’s mostly from Scottish but I think used a bit in Northern England and I assumed all English-speakers used it until I learned otherwise a few weeks ago:

Flitting (moving house)
I also miss some of the things that aren’t really different words but you use them differently in subtle ways. Something that always stands out to me is when people down here say “yeah right” about something they don’t believe and they say it a specific way. Lowered voice
You almost have to change your voice to make sure it sounds sarcastic. “Yeah right”. But in Scotland you could reply to the exact same thing with more or less the same words “Aye, right!” but you’d say it an an upbeat way and it sounds just as sarcastic
Also sad to always hear “why not?” and never “how no?”
